Materialism:
The Downfall of society
Materialism:
The Downfall of society
Materialism has become a defining feature of modern society. The relentless pursuit of material wealth and possessions has resulted in a society that values possessions over people, and materialistic ideals over spiritual ones. In "Materialism: The Downfall of Society," we explore the Islamic philosophical approach to materialism and its effects on society. Drawing from the literature of Shaheed Murtaza Mutahhari, an influential Islamic scholar, we examine the underlying causes of materialism and its negative impact on society.
We begin by examining the historical approach to materialism, delving into the story of Korah and early Islamic history, particularly the events of Karbala. Through this lens, we gain a deeper understanding of the roots of materialism and the ways in which it has been perpetuated throughout history.
Next, we turn to the psychological approach to materialism, drawing on the writings of Professor Tim Kasser. We explore the ways in which materialistic values and goals can lead to psychological distress and dissatisfaction.
Finally, we examine the Islamic approach to materialism from the lectures of Ustad Laghaei on Zohd. Through this lens, we explore the concept of detachment from material possessions and the role of spirituality in combating materialism.
By exploring materialism through these different lenses, we aim to provide a comprehensive understanding of its impact on society and the ways in which we can address it. This book is essential reading for anyone seeking to understand the complex relationship between materialism, spirituality, and society.
